Splintered Stage is an independent theatre company founded by scenic designer and producer Benedict R. Fancy in Wilmington, North Carolina. We produce compelling work that places people at the center of the conversation, believing theatre has the power to challenge perspectives, inspire meaningful dialogue, and reveal the shared experiences that connect us as humans.

Rather than producing a traditional season, Splintered Stage focuses on one carefully chosen production at a time, allowing us to devote our full creative energy to every project, bringing together the right artists and collaborators to tell each story with intention, honesty, and care.

We are drawn to contemporary plays, overlooked works, and bold theatrical voices that invite audiences to reflect, question, and connect. Whether humorous, unsettling, or deeply moving, our productions seek emotional truth and celebrate the power of live storytelling.

Benedict is a freelance scenic designer and Performing Arts Technical Director at Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he teaches Technical Theater and Design and has produced more than 90 productions over an 18-year career. He is the recipient of two BroadwayWorld Regional Awards for Best Scenic Design for Theatre Raleigh's The Prom and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and recently served as Associate Designer to two-time Tony Award winner Derek McLane on Theatre Raleigh's Broadway-bound production of Bull Durham: The Musical. His design credits include Theatre Raleigh, North Carolina Theatre, Thalian Association, Panache Theatrical Productions, Durham Academy, Altoona Theatre (PA), Kent Place School (NJ), Cape Fear Academy, and Splintered Stage.
